I would have to say that the chowing highlight of my long weekend in New York was Max Brenner's. This place is basically a decadent mess of deliciously dreamy foods where you must forget the words "health" or "diet" ever existed.
The stars are the crepes-- fresh crepes filled with your choice of dark chocolate, hazelnut, peanut butter/chocolate... the list goes on. Many come with a small scoop of ice cream and a "shot" of caramel, chocolate or vanilla cream on the side. The prices are steep... expect to pay $13+ just for your crepe. They also have a large variety of desserts and drinks, and the description of each makes you drool.
We tried a few of their crepes, a frozen lemonade, a hot chocolate in a "hug mug," a chocolate chai latte, and then spent a while gazing at the various chocolates for sale in the shop area.

It is really unfortunate that you didn't try some of the amazing Chinese restaurants in Flushing, like M&T [http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/16/dining/reviews/16brief-002.html?_r=1&scp=4&sq=flushing%20chinese&st=cse], Spicy And Tasty [http://events.nytimes.com/2008/11/16/nyregion/thecity/16rest.html?scp=1&sq=flushing%20chinese&st=cse]. Perhaps on your next trip you will get out of Manhattan!
Some other suggestions... Check the chowhound boards for the latest updates on these restaurants. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/30/dining/30flushing.html?scp=1&sq=flushing%20chinese%20restaurant&st=cse
Does she say that's the only place she went? The first line sounds to me like she's saying she went to a bunch of places, but the crepes were her favorite
I did get out of Manhattan. I spent the entire weekend with a friend who lives in Queens. Didn't write about every restaurant I tried because this is 99% an Austin blog!
